Recap:
The 2nd annual RMPA Day of Percussion event
was a huge success! 150 students, instructors, and parents
attended the all day event to share ideas and learn from a
fantastic group of clinicians. Colorado State University provided
the use of the new University Center for the Arts for the
event. Many thanks to Eric Hollenbeck, Assistant Professor
of Percussion for all of his help with the event!
Individual instrument sessions included keyboards, snare,
tenors, and bass drum. Students also had the opportunity to
attend a hand drumming clinic, a college audition prep session,
a drum circle, and more. Clinicians included Scott Johnson,
Matt Savage, Giff Howarth, Doug Walter and Eric Hollenbeck.
Extremely informative sessions were also available for instructors,
band directors, and parents. These sessions included Arranging,
Proper Classification, Movement, Utilizing Electronics, Management
Basics, and Trip Planning/Logistics.
After a full day of great sessions and tons of great giveaways
from Vic Firth, Yamaha, Remo, Zildjian, ProMark, and Xymox,
the final session of the day provided the opportunity for
all of the participants to ask the judges questions in the
Judges Panel Discussion followed by a social event with refreshments
provided by RMPA.
Survey results and pictures will soon be on the website.
RMPA is committed to continuing to provide this excellent
educational opportunity. Keep an eye on www.rmpa.org for information
about next year's event.
